Free Eye Check-up Camp Strengthens Grassroots Health & Inclusion in Varanasi

Aligning with SDGs and the Vision of Nation-State Building

In alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being) and the broader mission of inclusive nation-state building, a free eye check-up camp was successfully organized on 2nd June 2025 at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Baragaon, Varanasi. This initiative was jointly supported by JanMitra Nyas and the Shiksha Plus program of the Shiv Nadar Foundation.

The camp primarily aimed to reach socially excluded, marginalized, and torture-affected communities, who are often neglected in mainstream health programs. By ensuring timely screening, expert consultation, and follow-up for eye disorders, the camp played a vital role in advancing both health equity and social justice.

Key Achievements:

  • 18 patients diagnosed with cataract symptoms.

  • 02 patients referred to R.J. Shankara Eye Hospital for cataract surgery.

  • Specialized eye examinations and consultations were conducted by a qualified team from R.J. Shankara Eye Hospital.

This camp represents more than medical service delivery; it is a practical expression of constitutional values—the right to health, dignity, and inclusion. Reaching historically marginalized communities affirms India's path towards just, inclusive, and participatory nation-building.

The initiative also strongly resonates with:

  • SDG 1 (No Poverty) – through free access to essential health services.

  • SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) – by targeting vulnerable and torture-affected populations.

  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) – demonstrated through collaboration between JanMitra Nyas, public health institutions, and private hospital networks.

Such camps help restore trust between the state and its citizens, fostering a nation where health is not a privilege, but a right.

जनमित्र न्यास और शिव नादर फाउंडेशन के शिक्षा प्लस कार्यक्रम के सहयोग से 2 जून 2025 को प्राथमिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्र, बड़ागांव में निशुल्क नेत्र जांच शिविर का आयोजन किया गया। यह प्रयास न केवल SDG 3 (सभी के लिए अच्छा स्वास्थ्य और कल्याण) बल्कि समावेशी राष्ट्र निर्माण की भावना को भी सशक्त करता है।

इस शिविर का उद्देश्य था उन लोगों तक स्वास्थ्य सेवा पहुंचाना जो सामाजिक रूप से वंचित, यातना पीड़ित या उपेक्षित हैं और जिन्हें अक्सर मुख्यधारा की स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं से बाहर कर दिया जाता है।

मुख्य उपलब्धियां:

  • कुल 18 मरीजों की जांच की गई जिनमें मोतियाबिंद के लक्षण पाए गए।

  • 02 मरीजों को ऑपरेशन हेतु आर.जे. शंकरा आई हॉस्पिटल रेफर किया गया।

  • अनुभवी टीम द्वारा सभी मरीजों को उचित परामर्श एवं मार्गदर्शन प्रदान किया गया।

स्वास्थ्य के माध्यम से सम्मान और समावेशन की ओर

यह शिविर केवल एक चिकित्सा पहल नहीं, बल्कि भारत के संविधान में निहित गरिमा और अधिकारों की व्याख्या भी है। यह उन समुदायों तक स्वास्थ्य सेवाएं पहुंचाकर, एक समावेशी, न्यायसंगत और सहभागितापूर्ण राष्ट्र के निर्माण की दिशा में एक मजबूत कदम है।

यह पहल निम्नलिखित सतत विकास लक्ष्यों के प्रति योगदान करती है:

  • SDG 1 (गरीबी उन्मूलन) – मुफ्त सेवा के माध्यम से

  • SDG 10 (असमानताओं में कमी) – उपेक्षित और पीड़ित वर्गों तक पहुंच

इस प्रकार की गतिविधियां राज्य और नागरिकों के बीच भरोसे को पुनर्स्थापित करती हैं और एक ऐसा भारत बनाने की दिशा में अग्रसर हैं जहाँ स्वास्थ्य सभी का अधिकार हो।

वाराणसी के बड़ागांव ब्लॉक अंतर्गत कठिराव गाँव में, ग्रामीणों की आंखों में आज एक नई रौशनी देखी गई — और वो रौशनी थी भरोसे, सेवा और साझेदारी की।
R.J. शंकरा आई हॉस्पिटल और जनमित्र न्यास (Janmitra Nyas) के संयुक्त प्रयास से एक निःशुल्क नेत्र परीक्षण शिविर का आयोजन किया गया, जिसमें सैकड़ों ग्रामीणों ने अपनी आंखों की जांच करवाई।

इस शिविर को शिव नादर फाउंडेशन के शिक्षा प्लस कार्यक्रम के सहयोग से आयोजित किया गया, जो सिर्फ शिक्षा ही नहीं, बल्कि स्वास्थ्य और जागरूकता को भी समान रूप से महत्वपूर्ण मानता है।
अब यह नेत्र शिविर हर महीने गाँव में लगेगा, जिससे हजारों लोगों को लाभ मिलेगा।

👁️ ग्रामीण महिलाओं, बुजुर्गों, और युवाओं की आंखों में जब डॉक्टरों की टीम ने झांका, तो उन्हें सिर्फ नेत्र रोग नहीं, बल्कि समाज के साथ भरोसे का रिश्ता भी नजर आया।
जनमित्र न्यास का उद्देश्य है कि स्वास्थ्य, शिक्षा और मानव अधिकारों का समावेशी मॉडल गाँवों में जमीनी स्तर पर लागू हो।

यह शिविर सिर्फ इलाज नहीं, सम्मान और आत्मनिर्भरता की शुरुआत भी है।

“See Clearly, Think Cleanly – A Unique Partnership between R.J. Shankara Eye Hospital and Janmitra Nyas”

In the heart of rural Varanasi, in Kathirav village of Baragaon block, a new light glimmered in the eyes of hundreds – the light of trust, care, and access.
Thanks to a meaningful collaboration between R.J. Shankara Eye Hospital and Janmitra Nyas, a free eye screening camp was held, reaching out to the underserved and the forgotten.

This initiative was supported by the Shiv Nadar Foundation's Shiksha+ program, which not only promotes education but also strengthens health and awareness in rural communities.
The success of this camp has led to the commitment that such eye camps will now be held every month, benefiting thousands.

👁️ As doctors looked into the eyes of elderly villagers, women, and youth – they saw more than cataracts or infections.
They saw hope, dignity, and the trust of a community that often goes unnoticed.

  Free Eye Camp and Adult Literacy Program Bring Vision and Knowledge to Villagers Varanasi | March 2025 — In a powerful step towards rural empowerment and sustainable development , Janmitra Nyas , in collaboration with Shiv Nadar Foundation , PVCHR , and RJ Shankara Eye Hospital , organized a free eye check-up camp  on 18 March 2025 and promoted adult literacy programs for underserved communities in Kathirav village, Baragaon block .
