Strengthening Adult Literacy: Janmitra Nyas Trains 37 Community Educators and 3 Field Coordinators Under Shiv Nadar Foundation’s Shiksha Plus Program

In a significant step toward empowering adult literacy, Janmitra Nyas successfully completed the training of 37 community educators and 3 field coordinators under the Shiksha Plus Program of the Shiv Nadar Foundation. The seven-day training program was held at the Barhikala Gram Panchayat Bhawan, located in the Badagaon Block of Varanasi.

This initiative aims to strengthen adult education at the grassroots level and bring learning opportunities to those who have been excluded from formal education systems. The program holds immense importance in advancing national development goals and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly those related to poverty alleviation, equality, and social inclusion.

Expert-Led Training for Effective Adult Education

The training was conducted by Mr. Bhuvan, an experienced trainer from the Shiv Nadar Foundation. He provided in-depth guidance on effective teaching techniques, learner-centered methods, and practical strategies to ensure meaningful adult learning. The sessions were designed to equip community educators and field coordinators with the tools required to deliver impactful literacy programs in rural communities.

This structured approach not only enriches the educators’ capacities but also lays the foundation for sustainable and community-driven adult literacy initiatives.

Empowering Communities Through the Shiksha Plus Program

During the event, Ms. Shruti Nagvanshi, Trustee of Janmitra Nyas, honored trainer Mr. Bhuvan for his dedicated contribution. In her remarks, she emphasized the transformative role of the Shiksha Plus Program:

“The Shiksha Plus Program of Shiv Nadar Foundation is a vital initiative to educate adults who have never had the opportunity to pursue formal schooling. By using audio-visual tools and digital learning materials, the program supports adults in developing essential reading, writing, and numeracy skills—strengthening their self-reliance and confidence.”

She also shared that the program will be expanded to more villages in the coming months. Previously, Janmitra Nyas successfully implemented Shiksha Plus in Kathiraon and Barji Gram Panchayats, where 1,989 adults were made literate.

Building a Literate and Inclusive Society

Adult literacy is a powerful catalyst for social transformation. It enhances economic opportunities, improves decision-making, and fosters dignity and independence. Initiatives like Shiksha Plus help create a more inclusive society where every adult has the opportunity to learn, grow, and participate fully in community life.
